Virgin Active Msheireb. 25-metre indoor lap pool with fibre-optic ceiling

Where physio meets water.

A 25-metre lap pool, a hot tub with a cold plunge, and a quiet lounge. The recovery space that sits alongside physiotherapy at MVP.

Recovery is part of the treatment, not something tacked on afterwards. Inside Virgin Active's Longevity Suite you have a 25-metre lap pool, a hot-and-cold spa zone, and a quiet lounge for after the session. MVP patients use it as part of a plan put together with their physio. Movement in water, contrast immersion and rest each have a role in getting you back to full capacity.

Lap Pool

A 25-metre indoor pool with a fibre-optic ceiling that mimics a night sky. Low-impact lanes for rehab swim, gait re-loading after a lower-limb injury, and aerobic recovery work between treatment sessions.

Contrast hydrotherapy. Hot tub and ice bath at MVP recovery suite
Hot tub + ice bath

Contrast Spa

A heated jacuzzi next to a cold plunge for contrast hydrotherapy. Used after strength work, hard training blocks, or as part of pain and stiffness management with your physio.

Recovery Lounge

Loungers, soft light and controlled humidity. A space built so your nervous system can shift down once the work is done.

Recovery Protocol

How we use the pool, clinically

This is not a wellness add-on. Your physio prescribes pool work the same way they prescribe rehab exercises: with a clear intent, a dose and a follow-up.

  1. Assess

After your physio session we work out whether contrast immersion, low-load aquatic movement or simple rest is the right tool for your case today.

  2. Move in water

Pool work unloads body weight by up to 80%. Useful for early-stage post-surgical rehab, persistent low-back pain, and return-to-running progressions when land-based load is still too high.

  3. Contrast immersion

Targeted hot and cold cycles applied to defined protocols: performance recovery, DOMS management, autonomic regulation. Your physio sets the time and the temperature.

  4. Down-regulate

The lounge phase is part of the prescription. Recovery is a nervous system event before it is a muscular one, and it needs the time.

The clinical case for water

What it actually does

  • Reduced joint load. Rehab movement at a fraction of body weight, useful for early post-op or for ongoing lower-limb pain.
  • Hydrostatic pressure that mechanically reduces lower-limb swelling and supports lymphatic drainage.
  • Contrast immersion to manage perceived muscle soreness after hard training blocks.
  • Lower-impact aerobic conditioning when running and high-load work are temporarily off the table.
  • Down-regulation of the sympathetic nervous system. Measurable, repeatable, and often missing from a busy schedule.
  • Continuity of care: pool work is logged, reviewed and adjusted with your physio between sessions.

Frequently asked

Do I need to be a Virgin Active member to use the pool with MVP?

Access for MVP patients is arranged through the clinic. Your physiotherapist will confirm what is included with your treatment plan and what requires separate Virgin Active access at the time of your first session.

Is the cold plunge safe if I'm in rehab?

Cold immersion is a tool, not a default. We screen for cardiovascular and circulatory contraindications, set the duration and temperature to your case, and review how you tolerate it. Patients with uncontrolled blood pressure, certain cardiac conditions or Raynaud's are typically advised against it.

Can I use the pool the same day as a physio session?

Usually yes, and often that is the point. Same-day pool work after hands-on therapy or graded exercise can extend the effect of the treatment. Your physio will tell you whether it's helpful today or whether rest is more useful.

Is the pool suitable post-surgery?

Open or healing wounds rule out water work until cleared by your surgeon. Beyond that, pool-based rehab is one of the most effective tools we have in the first 6 to 12 weeks after lower-limb surgery. We coordinate with your surgical team on the timing.

Start with the physiotherapy. The pool follows.

The recovery suite is part of an integrated plan, not a stand-alone service. Book a physio assessment and we'll build the right mix for your case.
